Traditionally, foreigners interested in working and traveling in Korea had to navigate the limitations of a tourist visa, allowing stays of fewer than 90 days. 

The proposed workation visa breaks away from these constraints, offering individuals the flexibility to stay for up to one year initially, with the possibility of extending for an additional year.

Unveiling the Digital Nomad Visa : 

To further streamline the experience for remote workers and vacationers in Korea, the Justice Ministry is rolling out a new digital nomad visa. 

This visa caters specifically to those seeking a balance between work and travel, aligning with the evolving nature of work seen in various regions globally.

Navigating the Application Process : 

Prospective applicants for the digital nomad visa are required to submit necessary documentation to the South Korean Embassy in their home countries. 

This includes proof of an annual income exceeding 84.96 million won, double South Korea's gross national income per capita as of 2022.

Ensuring a Smooth Transition : 

In addition to income verification, applicants must provide employment verification and undergo a criminal record check. 

Furthermore, applicants must possess private health insurance with a minimum coverage of 100 million won, ensuring their ability to return home in case of emergencies.

Who's Eligible? : 

Applicants must be 18 years or older, boasting at least one year of experience in their current field. 

The digital nomad visa extends beyond the individual, allowing successful visa holders to bring their spouses and children along for the adventure. 

Importantly, the initial one-year stay in South Korea can be extended for an additional year, making it a flexible option for those seeking a more prolonged stay.

Seizing the Opportunity : 

An exciting facet of this initiative is that foreigners already in South Korea on short-term tourist visas like B-1, B-2, or C-3 can transition to the new digital nomad visa. 

It's important to note, however, that this visa does not grant digital nomads the ability to seek employment within South Korea.
