Now, its remnants have reached India, specifically affecting the state of West Bengal. 

With the influence of the storm, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across several regions, along with warnings of severe weather conditions.

Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across West Bengal:

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain across West Bengal, starting from Thursday. 

Both northern and southern parts of the state are expected to experience heavy showers. 

The weather pattern, triggered by an active monsoon trough over Bengal, will persist until the end of the week. The monsoon trough, combined with the remnants of Typhoon Yagi, is expected to create low-pressure systems that will intensify the rainfall.

New Low-Pressure System Forming in the Bay of Bengal:

In addition to the remnants of Yagi, a new low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal. This system, together with the active monsoon trough, is anticipated to bring widespread heavy rainfall, especially to southern Bengal. 

Coastal districts, such as Digha, are expected to bear the brunt of these weather conditions, with heavy rains and strong winds over the next few days.

Warnings of Heavy to Very Heavy Rain in Southern Bengal:

On Friday, meteorologists predict very heavy rainfall in six districts, including Kolkata. Heavy rain will also affect other parts of southern Bengal, particularly on Saturday when western regions will see intense downpours. 

Coastal areas, like Digha and East Midnapore, could witness wind speeds of up to 55 km/h due to the impact of the low-pressure system.

Impact on Northern Bengal and Surrounding Regions:

While southern Bengal is expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, northern Bengal will not be spared. 

Darjeeling and Kalimpong, located in the hill regions, are forecasted to experience heavy rains, which could lead to landslides. 

Other northern districts, such as Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri, are likely to witness moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms.

Cloudy Skies and Consistent Rainfall Across Kolkata:

Kolkata, the state capital, has been experiencing cloudy skies and intermittent rainfall since Thursday morning. 

These conditions are expected to continue through the week, with the possibility of heavy rain at times. 

The weather department warns of widespread rain across all districts, from northern to southern Bengal, with particularly heavy rainfall in coastal and hill areas.

Fishermen and Coastal Communities on High Alert:

Due to the active monsoon trough and the likelihood of a new low-pressure system, the Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea until Saturday. 

Coastal areas, including parts of Bangladesh, are also on high alert, with warnings of rough seas and gusty winds.

East Midnapore: The Epicenter of Rainfall:

Digha and other parts of East Midnapore are forecasted to experience continuous rainfall, with the intensity increasing from Friday onwards. 

The district could see extremely heavy downpours on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures fluctuating between 35.2°C and 27.5°C. Humidity levels in the region will remain high, around 82%, adding to the discomfort.

Conclusion: Typhoon Yagi’s Lasting Impact:

Typhoon Yagi has already caused widespread destruction in China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, and its residual effects are now being felt in India. 

With heavy rainfall expected across Bengal and the formation of new low-pressure systems, the coming days could see severe weather conditions.
