Introduction:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recently announced relief from the scorching heatwave in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar due to thunderstorm activity in the eastern region. 

This article delves into the IMD's forecast and alerts for various states, highlighting the expected weather conditions and rainfall patterns.


Heatwave Conditions in Eastern Region:

According to IMD scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar, heatwave conditions will persist for the next three days in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar. However, relief is on the horizon as thunderstorm activity is expected to alleviate the heatwave after this period.


Forecast for South Peninsular Regions:

Meanwhile, the IMD predicts similar heatwave conditions to persist in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu for the next four days. An orange alert has been issued for the heatwave in Telangana, West Bengal, and coastal Karnataka.


State-specific Alerts:

The IMD bulletin highlights the likelihood of heatwave conditions in specific pockets across various states, including Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana, interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu.


Rainfall Expectations:

In contrast to the heatwave, rainfall activity is expected in the northeastern states, with light to moderate rainfall predicted for the next two days. Subsequently, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Mizoram.


Thunderstorm Activity:

The IMD predicts thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and rainfall over Northeast India on May 5 and 6. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms is expected over several states in the South Peninsula region and East India.
