🔥 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared that the heatwave conditions will persist in southern West Bengal until at least April 30.

🔴 Seven districts in South Bengal, including Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, and Birbhum, have been issued a red alert, indicating the likelihood of severe heatwave conditions.

🟠 Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for several other districts, such as North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly, Purulia, Murshidabad, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, and Nadia, where temperatures soared to a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius on Friday.

The abnormal rise in maximum temperatures in the southern and western districts of the state can be attributed to dry westerly winds and intense solar radiation, according to the Met Department.

🌡️ Kalaikunda in Paschim Medinipur district registered the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 44.7 degrees Celsius, significantly above the normal average.

🌞 Panagarh witnessed temperatures reaching 44.5 degrees Celsius, highlighting the severity of the heatwave.

In Bankura, Barrackpore, and several other areas, temperatures soared above 43 degrees Celsius, posing health risks to residents.
