India is buzzing with anticipation as the 2024 Lok Sabha elections kick off today on 19 April , marking the beginning of the world's largest democratic exercise. With an impressive 16.63 crore voters ready to cast their votes, the stage is set for a significant political showdown.


Phase 1 Overview:📄

The first phase of polling will cover a whopping 102 Parliamentary Constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories (UTs). Additionally, 92 Assembly Constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will also see voting. This phase is undeniably the most extensive of all, and the voting window is set from 7 am to 6 pm.


Preparation and Logistics:🚛

The Election Commission (EC) has been diligently preparing for this monumental task for the past two years. They've established 1.87 lakh polling stations and deployed 18 lakh polling officials to ensure a smooth voting process. From mountains to rivers, the EC is leaving no stone unturned to guarantee that every voter can exercise their democratic right. 🗳️


Special Measures:📢📣

To maintain the integrity of the elections, webcasting will be conducted in over 50% of the polling stations. Furthermore, 361 observers have been appointed to ensure the peace and purity of the electoral process. Flying Squads, Surveillance Teams, and Video Viewing Teams are also on standby to tackle any form of voter inducement promptly.

- Nitin Gadkari: The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister is seeking his third consecutive win from the Nagpur seat.
  
- Jitin Prasada: Former Congress leader, now BJP candidate from Pilibhit, is facing off against candidates from the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.

- Tamilisai Soundararajan: The BJP candidate for Chennai South LS seat, recently resigned as the Lt Governor of Puducherry to return to active politics.

- K Chidambaram: The Sivaganga MP aims for re-election from his father's seven-time winning seat.

- Dayanidhi Maran vs Vinoj P Selvam: A fierce battle is anticipated for the Chennai Central Lok Sabha seat between the DMK and BJP candidates.

- Nakul Nath: Son of former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath, he is seeking re-election from Chhindwara.

- Triangular Race in Saharanpur: Featuring candidates from Congress-SP alliance, BJP, and BSP, this constituency promises a tight contest.
