Ensuring Integrity : West Bengal's Response to Exam Paper Circulation

Introduction :

In the wake of Class 10 board exams in West Bengal, concerns arose as images of English question papers circulated on social media platforms.

This incident echoed a previous occurrence involving Bengali papers, prompting swift action from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Examinations.

Swift Action Taken :

Ramanuj Ganguly, President of the Board, confirmed the authenticity of the shared English question papers and took punitive measures against 12 candidates involved in the circulation.

These candidates, hailing from various districts, were prohibited from further examinations, with their previous Bengali papers also nullified. Additionally, two candidates faced consequences for similar actions regarding Bengali papers.

Clarification on Leak :

Ganguly clarified that while the images emerged post-commencement of the exam, they didn't constitute a leak.

Rather, students were found taking photos within examination centers and sharing them via WhatsApp.

Despite the gravity of the situation, no legal actions were pursued against the students to safeguard their futures.

Urging Responsibility :

Both Ganguly and Education Minister Bratya Basu emphasized the importance of responsible actions, cautioning against using students to disrupt examinations and undermine the government.

Basu denounced such efforts as "sinister" and assured that they would not succeed.

Consequences and Preventive Measures :

Apart from the 12 candidates, the board canceled English papers for three others found with mobile phones at examination centers.

To deter future incidents, the board implemented a unique secret code on each page of the question papers, ensuring authenticity and deterring the circulation of fake images on social media.

Conclusion :

The recent incident of exam paper circulation in West Bengal highlights the importance of maintaining exam integrity.

Through swift action, clarification, and preventive measures, the Board aims to uphold the sanctity of examinations while safeguarding the future of students.

Collaboration between authorities, educators, and students remains crucial in ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.
