Introduction : 

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Central and North India till 13 February. 

This alert covers several states, including Punjab and Delhi.

Additionally, cold weather conditions persist in Punjab, with temperatures dipping below normal in various parts of the region.


IMD Forecast for Rainfall : 

According to the IMD's official statement, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity is expected over Central India from 11th to 13th February. 

Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh are also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms on 12 February. 

Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha are forecasted to witness similar conditions on subsequent days. 

Additionally, hailstorms are expected in certain areas, such as East Madhya Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh.


IMD Forecast for Minimum Temperature : 

The IMD predicts a gradual rise in minimum temperatures over Northwest India in the next five days. 

Similarly, East India is likely to experience a 2-4°C increase in minimum temperatures over the next three days, with no significant changes thereafter. 

However, Central India is expected to see minimal fluctuations in minimum temperatures over the next five days.


IMD Forecast for Cold Wave :

Cold wave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan on 12 February 2024.


IMD Forecast for Delhi : 

In the national capital, Delhi, mist is predicted on Monday morning, with minimum and maximum temperatures expected to hover around 8 and 25 degrees Celsius respectively. 

Due to low visibility caused by fog, several flight operations have been delayed at the Indira Gandhi International airport.


Conclusion :

In summary, the IMD's forecast warns of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and cold wave conditions in various states across Central and North India. 

Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during these weather events.
