Shankaracharyas and the Ayodhya Dilemma | Ayodhya Temple Inauguration Faces Criticism | A Clash of Norms and Politics

Introduction :

The much-anticipated grand consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, scheduled for January 22, has taken an unexpected turn. Puri Shankaracharya, Nishchalananda Saraswati, and his counterpart from Jyotir Mutt in Uttarakhand, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, have declared their refusal to attend the event, citing concerns about violated religious norms and political undertones.

Shankaracharya's Concerns : Violation of Dharma Shastra :

Nishchalananda Saraswati emphasizes that the event is being politicized, expressing reservations about the Prime Minister's direct involvement in touching the idol.

He insists on dignified consecration, asserting, "Lord Ram's consecration must be done in a dignified way."

Swami Avimukteshwaranand's Perspective :

Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati echoes these concerns, stressing that the four Shankaracharyas won't attend due to a violation of Sanatan Dharma rules.

He criticizes the hasty Pran Pratishtha ceremony without completing the temple construction, emphasizing that there was no urgency.

The Construction Timeline : Prime Minister's Role :

The trust overseeing the temple construction, Sri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra, asserts that while the first floor is ready, the entire temple will take another two years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to be the chief guest, performing the first aarti in the temple on January 22.

Response from Other Mutts : Subtitle: Mixed Opinions :

While Shankaracharyas from Dwarka and Sringeri mutts have supported the event, the overall sentiment remains divided among the heads of mutts.

Swami Bharatikrishna Tirtha and Swami Sadanand Saraswati have yet to clarify their stance.

Conclusion :

In conclusion, the Ayodhya temple inauguration faces criticism from some Shankaracharyas who believe the event violates established religious norms.

The clash of opinions reflects a broader debate within the spiritual leadership, raising questions about the intersection of religion and politics.

As the event approaches, the absence of these spiritual leaders adds a layer of complexity to the much-anticipated ceremony.
