Introduction : 

Distress hit an ashram school in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district when over 100 girl students fell severely ill after consuming lunch. Symptoms included vomiting and abdominal pain, prompting the hospitalization of 109 students. Food samples have been sent for testing to determine the cause.


The Incident : 

On a seemingly normal Wednesday at an 'ashram shala' in Sode village, Dhanora taluka, tragedy struck.

Lunch served around 12:30 pm triggered illness among the students, leading to vomiting, abdominal pain, and headaches among over 100 girls. Swift action saw 109 students rushed to hospitals for treatment. 

Among them, 40 were shifted to Gadchiroli's general hospital while 69 continue to receive care at the Dhanora rural hospital.


Investigation and Community Concerns : 

Dr. Pramod Khandate, the civil surgeon, emphasized the seriousness of the situation. 

He stated, "Samples of food and water have been sent to a laboratory for testing." As the investigation continues, concerns among the community, especially parents of the 350 enrolled students, are escalating. Everyone awaits the results of the tests for clarity on the nature of the contamination.


Collaborative Measures : 

The incident has sparked collaboration between the education department and health authorities to ensure the affected students' well-being. 

Preventative measures are being discussed to avoid any recurrence of such distressing incidents in the future.
