Introduction : Metro MMI for Pune : 

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is gearing up for a groundbreaking initiative to enhance last-mile connectivity on the upcoming Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor. 

With plans mirroring its Mumbai counterpart's recent announcement, PMRDA aims to implement a comprehensive multi-modal integration (MMI) plan across all 23 stations on the 23.3km elevated stretch.

Following Mumbai's Footsteps : 

In a move aligned with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), PMRDA is set to collaborate with the project concessionaire for the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line. 

This innovative approach, executed in public-private partnership (PPP) mode, emphasizes the significance of seamless connectivity.

Strategic Measures for Last-Mile Connectivity : 

To ensure the success of the MMI plan, PMRDA plans to introduce various measures, including dedicated parking facilities and infrastructure development along the metro route. 

These efforts aim to facilitate easy access to autorickshaws, buses, private cabs, and electric bikes. The senior PMRDA official highlighted that these initiatives would be strategically implemented as the project nears completion.

Milestones and Timeline : 

The third Metro line, anticipated to commence operations by the end of April 2025, has already achieved a significant milestone with nearly 50% of the work completed. 

The design and development of stations for Pune Metro Line 3 align with the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) policy issued by the state government on March 9, 2019.

Addressing Citizen Concerns : 

Despite the progress, citizens have expressed concerns about the lack of bicycle tracks and pedestrian-friendly footpaths. 

IT professional Mohit Verma emphasized the importance of a robust feeder service to encourage Metro usage. 

Advocating for proactive measures during the planning stage, he highlighted the need for comprehensive infrastructure development.
