Probe into Allegations : 

The aviation ministry has initiated a probe into the accusations against Captain Gill. 

The order issued mandates his presence in New Delhi and restricts him from leaving headquarters without prior permission.

Whistleblower's Complaint : 

An anonymous whistleblower, in a complaint dated October 25, alleges that Captain Gill, former head of the directorate of flying training, accepted bribes from Flying Training Organizations (FTOs). 

The complaint outlines a scheme involving the acquisition of training aircraft at nominal prices, subsequently rented out to other FTOs. 

In return, regulatory audits were purportedly manipulated to overlook safety lapses, leading to multiple aircraft accidents.

Complex Bribery Scheme Unveiled : 

The intricate web of corruption suggests that FTOs unable to meet Gill's demands resorted to selling aircraft at nominal prices to companies allegedly linked to him. 

These companies, directed by Gill's relatives, would then lease the aircraft to other FTOs, allegedly earning Rs 90 lakh annually. Captain Gill vehemently denies all accusations against him.

Red Bird's Involvement and Consequences : 

Notably, Red Bird, India's largest flying school, is implicated in the scandal. Operating some of the leased planes, Red Bird faced a suspension of flying activities after two crashes. 

The DGCA is now re-certifying Red Bird's operations, while the school vehemently denies any wrongdoing.

Revisiting Past Investigations : 

In a curious twist, it is revealed that in 2021, the DGCA's chief vigilance officer probed similar complaints against Captain Gill. 

Despite investigations at that time, nothing substantial was reportedly found. The current allegations bring renewed attention to the need for transparency and accountability within the DGCA.
