BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri Jain, faced a surprising setback at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. While en route to New York, they were stopped by immigration officials. 

This interruption, based on a lookout circular (LoC), connects to ongoing allegations of financial irregularities at the digital payments company.

Lookout Circular Issued by EOW : 

The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police issued the LoC against Grover and Jain, preventing them from leaving the country. 

An LoC is a measure to verify whether a person is wanted by law enforcement. EOW joint commissioner Sindhu Pillai confirmed the halt and stated that the couple is expected to join the probe the following week.

Confirmation and Cooperation : 

In response to the situation, Grover acknowledged the LoC on a microblogging site, expressing his commitment to cooperate with the investigation. 

This unexpected development occurred despite Grover's previous international travels post the FIR filed in May, highlighting the unusual nature of the incident.

The EOW registered an FIR in May, accusing Grover, Jain, and some family members of misappropriation of funds, causing a loss of Rs 81 crore to Resilient Innovations Pvt Ltd, the company behind BharatPe. 

The EOW's status report implicated HR consultancy firms linked to Jain in the financial irregularities.

BharatPe, represented by Zulfiquar Memon of MZM Legal, filed a petition against Grover and his wife. The investigation status report revealed serious findings, leading to the issuance of the LoC to prevent absconding or evidence tampering.

The probe against Grover and Jain is part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged Rs 81.28 crore fraud at BharatPe.

The accusations include payments to HR consultants and fraudulent activities resulting in potential sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.

BharatPe initiated a civil suit seeking damages of up to Rs 88.67 crore against Grover and his family for cheating and embezzlement.
