Introduction : Bengal Weather Alert : 

Even as winter approaches, southern Bengal is set to witness unexpected rainfall in the coming week.

Meteorologists attribute this change to a low-pressure area forming over the northeast Bay of Bengal and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. 

This system is expected to evolve into a deep depression within the next 48 hours, affecting several districts in south Bengal.

Weather Forecast : 

The regional meteorological office in Calcutta has confirmed that from November 16 to 18, widespread showers are anticipated. 

The affected areas include North and South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Calcutta, Howrah, Hooghly, West Midnapore, East and West Burdwan, Nadia, and Jhargram districts.

Impact on Districts : 

The untimely rains are expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms. Notably, North and South 24 Parganas, along with East Midnapore, are likely to experience heavy rainfall, while other areas may witness light to moderate showers. 

The meteorological office has issued a 'yellow' warning for heavy rainfall on November 16 and upgraded it to 'orange' for November 17 in specific locations.

Wind Speed Alert  : 

Squally winds with speeds ranging from 40-50 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 60 kilometers per hour, are predicted for Thursday morning. 

The intensity is anticipated to increase on Thursday evening, reaching 50-60 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour over the next 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) communication.

Weather System Trajectory : 

The trajectory of the weather system indicates that the low-pressure zone will intensify into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal on November 15. 

Subsequently, it is expected to move northwestwards, intensifying into a deep depression off the Andhra Pradesh coast on November 16. 

The system will then recurve north-northeastwards, reaching the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on November 17.

Safety Measures : 

With sea conditions anticipated to be rough to very rough off the Bengal and Bangladesh coasts, a red alert has been issued for fishermen. A total ban on venturing into the sea has been advised from November 16 to 18.
